Mallicoat, the special will provide viewers with a better understanding of candlepin bowling, a sport intrinsic to the region. The special will include an inside look at “Candlepins for Dollars,” a
new bowling show that will premiere on Saturday, March 4 at 6 p.m. on Boston’s
WB.
Some of the essential candlepin bowling information to be featured in “Candlepin
Bowling: A New England Tradition” will include:
§ A historical look at candlepin bowling, invented in Worcester, Mass. in the late 1800s… How did the sport begin? Why is it only found in New England and Canada? What’s the difference between candlepin and ten pin bowling?
§ Tips on how to speak “the language” of candlepin bowlers.
§ Insights from Maria Angelotti, President of the Massachusetts
Bowlers Association, on the future of the sport and its renaissance.
§ A lesson for Host Frank Mallicoat on how to score a strike
in candlepins from local pro-bowler Bart Maderios, director of the International Candlepin Youth Bowling Association.
§ Details on “Candlepins for Dollars” and how
it is set to revive the genre. Previous bowling programs aired on a local Boston television for almost 40 years,
making living legends of past hosts such as Bob Gamere of “Candlepins for Cash” (Ch. 7) and Don Gillis of “Candlepin
Bowling” (Ch. 5).
§ Interviews with professional bowlers from yesterday
and today, plus Bob Parrella of Paramount Industries in Medway, Mass. (the one and only supplier of Candlepin Bowling products) and Sil Angelotti, owner
of Pilgrim Lanes in Haverhill, Mass.
§ How viewers of the new “Candlepins for Dollars”
can get involved in the show!
